Feng Shui for selling your home

Selling your home is never an easy process. If it’s been on the market for months, with many viewings but few offers, it becomes even more emotionally stressful. You’re stuck in limbo.

While you’ve probably heard of Feng Shui for the home, you may not realise that feng shui can also help when selling your property and buying a new home.

When you use the principles of Feng Shui for selling your home, it can significantly speed up the sale. It creates a sense of space and tranquillity — exactly what buyers are looking for.

As a Feng Shui practitioner, I work mainly in Sussex and Surrey. During a consultation I look for key areas which may be preventing a sale, and introduce changes which allow good energy to flow.

As a result:

  • Your home becomes a more welcoming, spacious environment
  • Potential buyers feel at peace from the moment they arrive
  • They can instantly visualise how they will live in the property
  • You get more viewings, and more offers
  • You’re free of clutter when you move to your new home

Sustainability is important to me. When we’re clearing and decluttering, I’ll help you find ways to dispose of items sustainably. As many as possible will be recycled, reused and regenerated.

My name is Lynn Kingdon. If you’d like a no-obligation conversation, I’d be delighted to hear from you.

What is Feng Shui for selling a home?

In Chinese, Feng Shui means wind (`feng’) and water (`shui’). Although the practice is around 3,000 years old, its central principle is timeless. As humans, we are connected to and affected by our surroundings.

When it comes to Feng Shui for selling your home, decluttering is a key part of the process. However, it’s more than just a general clear out.

The central aim is to release the free flow of good energy (or chi) while balancing its complementary and opposing forces `yin’ and `yang’.

I draw on natural elements, colour, compass direction, light, ventilation, placement and ergonomic design to make adjustments which redirect the flow of energy.

The end result will change the way potential buyers feel about your home.

Feng Shui for selling property. How does it work?

It’s a collaborative process. I would never come in and rearrange your entire living space. This is, after all, still your home, so it’s important that you feel comfortable with the changes.

This is how my Feng Shui consultancy works:

  • Conversation — I’ll start by finding out where you are now, and where you’d like to be as a result of a Feng Shui consultation

  • A natal chart — Depending on your date and time of birth, there will be specific natural elements, symbols, colours, imagery and animals which are beneficial for you

  • Analysis — I take a detailed look at your home: its location, environment, outside space, orientation, auspicious and inauspicious areas

  • Consultation — I explain how to make changes, and why they will be beneficial. I’m happy to roll up my sleeves and help you in a practical way

  • Sustainable decluttering — I help you dispose of unwanted items in a sustainable way

  • A written report — I’ll summarise my analysis and recommendations. It will be a helpful resource when you move to your new home

Shall we have a chat? I can explain more about how it works and you can see what you think.

The benefits of Feng Shui for selling property

When you’ve been living in the same place for many years, it’s difficult to see it as a potential buyer would.

There may be areas of your home with stagnant energy. They’ve remained static for some time, and you’ve become used to things as they are.

Feng Shui gives you a new perspective. It’s about creating balance and positive energy, and there are many benefits to this:

  • Reduced levels of stress and anxiety
  • Sleep and overall wellbeing improves
  • You’re able to harness positive energy to move forward
  • Your home becomes more attractive to buyers
  • The sale is more likely to go through at the price you would like

FAQs

You’ll have questions so I’ve asked some of them here. If your question doesn’t appear, please feel free to get in touch. I’m always happy to provide the answer:

An in-person consultation is £496. A virtual online consultation costs £379.

I’m happy to offer payment by instalments. Just let me know if you’d like to take this option. We can set a payment schedule which suits both of us.

Yes you can. In fact, there’s a discounted price for feng shui consultations at both your old and new properties.

When you’re moving into a new home, feng shui can help with the emotional transition. For example, some part of you may want to stay where you are, and this can create blockages.

I can let you know the auspicious dates for moving then, once you’ve settled into your new home, I can carry out a consultation at the property.

An in-person consultation takes 2-3 hours. We’ll have at least one discussion beforehand — a pre-consultation about what you want to achieve from the process.

Online, it takes around the same amount of time and, again, we will have a discussion beforehand about your objectives.

Yes, feng shui can work via a video call.

The session works on the same principles as an in-person consultation. The only difference is that I’ll be guiding you as you move around your living space, finding its centre and establishing the compass directions.

I’m based in Horsham and will travel throughout East Sussex, West Sussex and Surrey.

Don’t worry if you live outside this area. We can arrange an online consultation. Alternatively, I can come and see you in person — although I will need to recover travel expenses.

Yes. I’ll treat your home as one area, but I can narrow down the consultation to specific rooms.

In my experience, the most popular rooms tend to be bedrooms and kitchens — but a consultation can focus on anywhere in your home.

Yes. Feng shui works extremely well in gardens because it’s based on creating harmony within the natural environment.

I’ll help you use colours, shapes, specific types of plants and water features to make your garden a haven of tranquillity and calm.

I’ll need your date of birth and, if known, the time you were born. I’ll also ask you for the dates and times of birth of other people in your household or business.

In addition, I’ll ask for a floorplan of your home or place of work. If you can’t get hold of a floorplan, don’t worry. I can give you advice on how to get hold of one, or we can draft a floorplan as part of the consultation.

Please don’t. It’s important for me to see the daily, real world environment in which you’re living or working. It helps me understand the impact this is currently having on you and your wellbeing.

It’s almost immediate. Once things are moved around and specific colours are introduced, the energy will shift and you will feel the difference.

As for the overall result, the timescale depends on your desired outcome and your willingness to embrace the process.

Remember, feng shui clears the pathway to what you desire. It sets the wheels in motion, but it won’t do all the work for you. To get the results you want, it’s important to be engaged with the process and open to the idea of change.

If you’re open to it, feng shui will continue to provide what you’re looking for.

You’re not stuck with what’s happened in the past. You can move forward. Feng shui is a continual process and once you understand its core principles, you can use them throughout your life.

As you probably know, a Chinese animal is related to your birth year. There are 12 of them —  rat, ox, tiger, rabbit, dragon, snake, horse, goat, monkey, rooster, dog and pig.

However, it’s more nuanced than that, because alongside your birth year animal, you have three other animals. They relate to the month, day and hour of your birth.

The Chinese zodiac also combines the 12 animals with five elements — fire, earth, metal, water and wood. Again, the elements are assigned according to four pillars of your birth data.

It’s this combination of animals and elements which adds layers of meaning to the signs. The animal and element will interact with each other in different ways, influence separate areas of your life and have compass directions or locations which naturally suit them.
